Year for the renewal of priestly life – 8th June 2018-28th June 2019

An exciting opportunity is coming up within the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Beginning and ending on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 2018 and 2019, a special Year of prayer and reflection will be happening.

To help us prepare for this special Year here in school we shall be holding our own Vocations Day on 18th May 2018.  It will be a chance for our pupils making their Confirmation in Years 7 and 8 and other pupils in RE classes to begin to discern prayerfully what they feel the Lord may be calling them to be and what they will do with their lives post education.

We shall be having special events taking place during the week leading up to the Vocations Day.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for quiet prayer and recollection will be available on the day.

Vocations can mean professions such as Teaching or Nursing, but on this day, it will be focussing mainly upon the Vocations (from the Latin word vocare to call) that are recognised by the Church.  Vocations to the Priesthood; Permanent Diaconate (Deacons); Consecrated Life as a Religious (Monk, Nun, Brother, Sister); Married Life & Parenthood and the Consecrated Single Life (as a Lay person called to  serve the church and practise celibacy as a Single Person) will be explored.

In the words of Fr Christopher Jamison OSB who wrote “…..fostering a culture of vocation lies at the heart of the Catholic school.”   Source: Call for Catholic Schools to foster vocations. Thursday, July 14th 2011.

More details will be available soon.  As we shall be preparing for the special focus Year there will be regular updates on our Twitter feeds @StBedesMiddle and @BedesRE.  There will also be regular writeups in the newsletter.  Do keep checking for new updates.
