Below is a link which has a video on that highlights the emotions of the children who are receiving the gifts. The video is called ‘Operation Christmas Child Romania 25 years on’. Also on the website it explains how to pack a shoebox and what you can include and what not to include. This Sunday the Church celebrated the Feast of the Holy Cross. Our Gospel reading comes from St John’s Gospel Chapter 3 verses 13-17. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 The above verse John 3:16 is the most used and quoted verse in the entire Bible and has been translated into more languages than any other! This verse reminds us of the wonderful truth that Jesus came to save us by his sacrificial death on the cross. As Christians we honour the cross, once a symbol of shame and punishment, which now, through Christ, is a symbol of love, mercy and forgiveness. Over the next week, every time we look at a cross or a crucifix, let us reflect on how much God the Father loves each one of us and say thank you to Jesus for restoring our friendship with God.

Jesus said “For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.” Matthew 18:20 This quotation comes from this Sunday’s Gospel reading. As we begin a new school year and a new term, we place ourselves, our families and our school community in our Heavenly Father’s loving hands and ask for His blessing on the year ahead. Jesus is always with us, but when we come together in fellowship and community, He is there in the midst of us in a special way. As we move into a new phase in the life of our school by being a part of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy may the Holy Spirit guide and inspire us and may the prayers of Our Blessed Lady support us as we embrace the future with hope.

As we come to the end of the school year, we give thanks to God for all His love and blessings towards us. We reflect on all that has passed over this year in the life of our school community. We offer all our efforts and achievements to the Lord and praise Him for His faithfulness. We commend ourselves and all that we are and have to the care of our Patron Saint Bede and we ask for His prayers as we move into a new school year in September. May we have a blessed, happy and healthy holiday time, and return refreshed and renewed, ready for the challenges ahead. Our gospel reading this week comes from Matthew 13: Jesus said; “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed…..it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the biggest shrub of all.” Even though our faith may be tinier than a mustard seed, if we offer it to God and ask Him to work through us and bless our work, with His help we shall grow strong and firm in our faith just as the mustard tree grows up to become the largest tree of all. Let us give thanks to God for the gift of faith and pray that faith may grow day by day.

This Sunday is Sea Sunday. Today the Church asks us to pray for seafarers and their families and all who work at our ports and docks. We ask Our Lady, Mary, Star of the Sea to pray with us and for us too. As we are an island nation, most of our imports comes by sea. We pray for all those who spend long weeks, months and years away at sea apart from their families and loved ones. We pray for those who minister to them in Port Chaplaincies – priests, sisters and lay people who bring God’s love and hope to them. We ask God to bless them in their work. Our Gospel reading today comes from St Matthew, Chapter 13. The parable of the sower. Jesus said; “The one who receives the seed in rich soil, is the one who hears the word and understands it; they are the ones who yield a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty.”

Yr 7 & 8 Life Skills as part of the PSHE programme All of year 7 and 8 will have a lesson on exploitation next week in Life Skills as part of the PSHE programme. There has been a lot of high profile incidents in the news relating to child sexual exploitation and so we need to make our pupils aware of how they can keep themselves safe, how to avoid certain situations and what to do if they feel they need to talk to someone. The lesson is produced by CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) so it is appropriate for Y7 and Y8 + and is very simple to follow. The lesson consists of a twenty minute video that they will watch in five minute chunks with their Form Teacher and the power point highlights questions for pupils to discuss about each part.

Thought for the week: This Sunday the church celebrates the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. One of the oldest prayers in the early church was the Glory be and is known as the doxology. This prayer, taken from the Bible is still said today; “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, the God who is, who was and who is to come.” The Book of Revelation Chapter 1 verse 8 Our faith proclaims the Triune (3-fold) mystery of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Not three gods – but One God with three ‘faces’ and unique personalities. God the Father who created the world and sent His Son Jesus, by whom the world was saved through his death and resurrection when He was raised to life by the Holy Spirit who makes us holy and gives us God’s own life for our souls. Let us give thanks to our wonderful, loving God who cares for us and guides us day by day. MONTH OF JUNE: We are now in the month of June. This month is dedicated to honouring the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Jesus shows us His Sacred Heart which burns with love and mercy for all people. The image of Jesus’ heart reveals His character and person to us. His heart is shown as a heart burning with flames and surrounded by a crown of thorns and a cross. This image helps us to think of Our Lord’s great love for us when He suffered and died for us on the Cross. During this special month dedicated to Our Lord, let us make this short prayer our own. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you! Amen…

Unfortunately we had an issue with our cashless dinner system on Monday 12th June, which has meant some balances are currently incorrect, and a difference is appearing between in school and parent pay. We have now fixed the issue, but have to re-enter data for Monday. This will obviously affect the pupils’ balances. The correct data will return as quickly as possible – and we will update the website once adjustments are complete. In the meantime any pupils who find their account balance lower than expected will still receive a dinner, and once all the data has been entered into the system – they will have the correct balances.
