A huge congratulations to our Year 5 Rounders Team who put in a sterling performance last night at Ridgeway. The girls were in high spirits and really pulled together as a team. In the final game against local rivals, Woodfield, we seemed to lose our heads, and let a substantial lead go. Nevertheless, the decision was put down to rounders for and against, resulting in a tie with Birchensale. Looking forward to seeing what this team does in the future!

On Tuesday, St Bede’s took 40 pupils to represent Redditch in the Worcestershire School Games, competing in Boccia, Swimming, and Athletics. These 3 teams had already won the District Round, which meant the standard would be high! The swimmers did really well, especially with us having Year 5’s competing against Year 6’s! The KS2 team finished 4th overal,l but only missed out on 3rd place by a couple of points! Well done to Owen, Oliver, Mikey, George, Liam, Hayden, Ellie, Grace, Frankie, Niamh, Victoria, Amelie and Ruby for all their hard work and to Mr Roberts for coaching them! The KS3 Boccia team, led by Miss Stewart, were really up for the competition. Narrowly losing their first game, they then fought bravely, winning all their remaining games. This meant that they won the event and claimed the Gold medal! A huge congratulations to Nathan, Mason, Tayibah and Sam for their achievement! We also then had Year 7 and Year 8 Super 6 athletic teams competing at the Ryland centre. Led by Mr Stenning, pupils were eager to show what they were made of against the best teams in the county. The Year 7’s did really well and managed to finish 2nd overall!! Well done to James, Rio, Lewis, Riley, George, Preston, Hallie, Danni, Olivia, Julia, Eden and Poppy for all their efforts, they deserved the Silver and hopefully next year they can improve. The Year 8 Super 6 team, again, did their absolute best and manged to win the competition! Picking up the Gold medal is a real credit to their hard work and commitment to athletics this year and really does prove that practice makes perfect! Well done to Santos, Tom, Stan, Reuben, Fin, Tom, Lucy, Aoibhe, Carmena, Mia, Evah and Eleanor for all their hard work!

Well what a week for Athletics! After the huge success in the Super 6 event on Monday, the PE Department was on a high. Tuesday’s KS2 quads is looking to be rearranged for the w/c 1 July. However, pupils got off to a good start! On Thursday we saw the whole KS3 Athletics Team compete in the Quads athletics against Birchensale, Ridgeway and Woodrush. Our pupils, as always, did themselves proud and we managed to fill every place in all events which meant we gained as many points as possible! We saw some brilliant performances, both on the track and the field, and many of our athletes qualified for the individual district finals taking place on Friday 5 July which allows pupils to compete again this time for a chance of a medal. Overall, as a team, St Bede’s, once again, retained the district trophy, managing to hold Birchensale off who pushed us all the way! This result, yet again, is down the hard work and commitment to the athletics season of both staff, pupils and parents! Mr Stenning would like to thank everyone involved in Athletics this year!

This is the week when our pupils’ hard work on the athletics field pays off, with all the district competitions taking place. On Monday, we started the week with the Super 6 team event, comprised of 12 Year 7 and 12 Year 8 pupils. Each pupil takes part in a track, field and relay event, competing to win points for their team. All our pupils were ready to go after cancellations last week and they performed brilliantly! Both our Year 7 and 8 teams finished in first place overall, which is a huge result after not winning last year. This means that both teams will go through to represent Redditch in the Worcestershire School Games on the Tuesday 2 July! Well done to James, Rio, Lewis, Riley, George, Preston, Hallie, Danni, Olivia, Julia, Eden and Poppy from Year 7 who all did brilliantly and Santos, Tom, Stan, Reuben, Fin, Tom, Lucy, Aoibhe, Carmena, Mia, Evah and Eleanor from Year 8 who really did themselves proud!

On Friday, it was the turn of our KS2 swimming team to take to the Abbey Stadium pool and compete in the District Competition. All pupils involved swam brilliantly, winning the majority of their races! Pupils competed in front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke and relays in winning points for the place they finished, which added up to a final team total. Well done to Oliver, Mikey, Hayden, Owen, George, Amelie, Niamh, Victoria, Ruby, Ellie, Frankie and Grace for all their efforts today, they very much did the school proud! Thank you also to all the parents that came and supported!

On Thursday afternoon, our year 7 and 8 girls became U13 Worcestershire County Cup champions. They played fantastically well against a strong Walkwood team. At half time the score was 0-0, but the girls hit the post, bar and their keeper made some wonderful saves. Early into the second half, Walkwood scored with a great 30 yard strike. The girls kept going until the end and, with five minutes to go they were rewarded. Unfortunately, a Walkwood player turned the ball into her own net and it was 1-1. But that wasn’t the end, with two minutes to go Mya scored. The girls played extremely well and should be proud of their football this year.

A huge congratulations to the Year 8 Rounders team last night! They travelled to Birchensale, who were hosts as well as rivals at this tournament, with positive attitudes and determination to make their mark on the medals table. It’s fair to say that they had an uncharacteristic start, losing a game to a much weaker team than themselves but took it on the chin and proceeded to win the following matches. The tournament culminated in an exciting match against the hosts Birchensale which we won with conviction. Phew! Birchensale had done enough previously to secure their win but but the girls were delighted with their silver medals as in their minds they beat Birchensale and that was like winning the gold. Well done girls a great final tournament for you!

On Wednesday, the Year 6 boys won their first district cricket match, by 76, runs in a competitive and challenging game against Ridgeway. The boys showed some excellent skills, taking 7, wickets with some brilliant catching and bowling. They also set a total of 286 runs (starting from 200). Well done boys, lots of positives and areas for improvement, in preparation for our next match against Walkwood.

On Monday, St Bede’s competed in the annual Catholic schools athletic competition. We took with us some of our Year 6 athletics team to compete in 100m, 600m, long jump, ball throw and relay. All our pupils got off to a good start, progressing through their heats to make the final. Unfortunately the rain then came and continue to fall heavily, meaning the competition had to be cancelled with the finals yet to be run. Well done however to all our athletes that kicked off their athletics season on Monday and all did really well! Thank you to Grace, Georgia, Teagan, Kalais, Alicia, Rehaan, Hayden, Cyprian and Clerryn for all their efforts on the rainy night!
15 May 2019
On Tuesday, we saw the first athletic event of the summer for Year 8’s in their first round of the National Athletics. As always, this is a tough event, with only the top schools across the county competing. Our pupils held their own and put in some really promising performances for the rest of the season! Pupils compete in events and are awarded points for their final score which goes towards the teams overall total. This year our girls finished fourth overall and our boys finished sixth. A huge well done to all our athletes, particularly in light of the hot weather, all their efforts demonstrated what character and determination they have! Well done to Lucy, Emmie, Mia, Mya, Evah, Aoibhe, Eleanor, Maddie, Maisey, Maud, Nadia, Tom, Matthew, Cameron, Stan, Reuben, Santos, David, Tom, Bartosz, Finley, James, Krystian and Archie! You all competed brilliantly!

Wow, what an outstanding performance from the Year 5 team. They were organised from the first centre pass, dominating games in the attacking third and defending was made to look easy, only conceding a single goal in the whole tournament. What a promising team for the future. A stunning performance by all!

On Tuesday the Year 7 boys rugby team took part in the annual district competition! After numerous cancellations due to the weather, the boys were eager to establish themselves early on and they put up a very solid test against a well drilled Alvechurch side. They were unlucky to concede a try late on in the game to lose their first match. They then managed to overcome a Ridgeway side that, again, put up a decent effort! This got St Bede’s through to the 3rd place playoff game against Birchensale. Again, the boys were really up for the game and managed a convincing 21-0 win to take 3rd place! Well done to George for being the top try scorer and to all the other lads, Gero, Jacob, Noah, Will, Lewis, Tyler, Tyreece, Rupert, Noah, Matthew, Rio, Preston, Oliver and Eddie for all their hard work!

Today, our Year 8 girls indoor athletics team headed to Bromsgrove School for the Worcestershire School Games finals! Competing in the County round against all of the other five districts this competition was really tough and the girls needed to be on their game! Before the event, the girls were able to take part in some other active sports such as Bollywood dancing, skipping, aerobics and even rock climbing! They finished the afternoon at the Sportshall Athletics competition and did really well! They managed to come second overall, which is a massive achievement in the county stage! Well done to all the girls who qualified for the event by winning the District Competition earlier in the year! Thank you to Mia, Jazelyn, Aoibhe, Evah, Lucy and Maddie for all their hard work!

On Tuesday afternoon, the Year 8 girls faced Stourport High School in their County Cup semi-final. The first half was a tight game against a strong Stourport team, but a goal from Mya meant the team led 1-0 at half time. In the second half, St Bede’s took control of the game and had many more chances to score. Danielle doubled our lead when she scored with a great lob over the keeper into an empty goal. With two minutes left to play, Stourport scored to make it a nervy end to the game. However, Emmie had different ideas and secured the win with an excellent finish. We now look forward to County Cup final against Walkwood.

A great result for the Year 7 netball team last Wednesday, narrowly missing out on the District title by one goal. Their performance demonstrated all the hard work and training they have put in since September and they have their eyes on that Championship title next year! Great effort by all. Thank you for the support from parents on the sideline, the girls really appreciate it!

Today, the Year 6 tag rugby team took part in the District Rugby Festival at Bromsgrove Rugby Club. They took a while to get used to playing as a team but, once they got the hang of it, they scored some really good tries! Well done to Grace, Teagan, Oliver, Harry, Matthew, Larsson and Ethan for all of their hard work and efforts.
**CANCELLED** Yr 8 Boys Rugby & Yr 7 Boys Football after school this week – this is due to staff training.
