On Friday 6 March, we took 9 boys to the Catholic Schools’ Football Tournament. They played against various local Catholic schools at Winterfold School. In the group stage, they played against 5 teams, winning four and drawing a game against Winterfold – who we would play again in the final. The team qualified top of their group and played a very tight semi-final over on pitch one. The game went all the way to extra time and had to be settled by a golden goal. A late own goal by the opposition meant that we progressed to the final. St Bede’s had already played Winterfold earlier in the tournament, in a tight 0-0 draw. The final followed the same pattern, an extremely tight game with very few opportunities for both teams. The game went to extra time, but the tie could not be settled which meant penalties. St Bede’s scored all of their penalties, with our goalkeeper Liam also managing to save two penalties from Winterfold. As a result, the boys were crowned champions! They played exceptionally throughout the tournament, conceding no goals across seven games. They were extremely well organised and gave their all, causing one parent to comment on their togetherness during the day.
Well done to George, Zach, Liam, Billy, Aiden, Kian, Elijah, Jude and Oliwier.
