On Tuesday this week, Mrs Osborne and Miss Downes bravely set off in some very inclement and wet weather to Birmingham to attend the annual Chaplaincy Commissioning Mass at St Chad’s Cathedral. They were rewarded with a beautiful Mass in the magnificent surroundings of the Cathedral and a warm welcome from the Archdiocesan Youth Service and Ministry Teams.

Four Year 6 pupils who are current prayer leaders, altar servers and pupils involved with Chaplaincy and Catholic Life came with us and a joyful, prayerful Mass was celebrated along with all the representative schools with their Priest and Lay Chaplains and Chaplaincy Teams from across the Archdiocese of Birmingham.  It was great to meet up with Staff and Pupils from St Augustine’s High School at this special Mass.

Bishop William Kenney was the Principal Celebrant and he commissioned all the attending Lay Chaplains and Chaplaincy Groups representing schools from across the Archdiocese of Birmingham for another year’s service and blessed us all with holy water thus sending us out to serve our school and faith communities.

Just before the close of the Mass, Miss Downes along with other Lay Chaplains, Chaplaincy Team Leaders and Youth Workers from the Kenelm Youth Trust went forward to Bishop William and were presented with their Certificates following a Year long programme of study they had undertaken for the Archdiocese of Birmingham Liturgy and Collective Worship Certificate.
