Dear Parents and Carers,

There has been no update for schools following the guidance from the Government on Monday evening. Therefore, the following precautions for COVID-19 are still in place at Bede’s;

1) Individuals displaying the symptoms of a new continuous cough, a temperature over 37.8 degrees or both, must now self-isolate for 14 days. If one person is self-isolating in the household, the whole household must self-isolate. Any pupils or staff that had began to self-isolate under the previous guidance of 7 days isolation have been contacted to remind them that they now need to self-isolate for 14 days;

2) Pupils that report having a new continuous cough or a temperature or both symptoms, will be asked to be collected by parents or carers and will need to self-isolate for 14 days;

3) Pupils with significant health issues (heart issues, respiratory issues, kidney issues, diabetes) have been advised to stay at home and “shield” themselves from any potential risk from COVID-19. As a school, we have a number of staff who are working from home due to underlying medical conditions.

If your child does fall into any of the above categories, please inform us of their absence by using the following link: ABSENCE REPORTING LINK

As I am sure you can appreciate, phone lines and email inboxes are very busy at this time.

We are running a collapsed timetable. Therefore, all pupils are being taught for every subject in mixed ability tutor groups and there is a heavy focus on Maths, English, Science, RE and PE. Additional handwashing and fresh air breaks have been implemented throughout the school day. We are trying to get pupils out into the fresh air as much as possible to ensure that they are not solely in classrooms. For the remainder of the week, at least, pupils can wear PE kit to school. As we are restricted with our timetable, the likelihood is that a whole year group will have PE at the same time. We do not have the facilities to allow a whole year group to get changed at once, therefore it is easier for pupils to arrive in PE kit. Pupils can still wear school uniform if they wish.

Due to the number of pupils and staff that are currently unable to be in school, we have also reduced the number of classes we have so there are now 4 tutor groups in each year group. This will enable us to operate as fully as possible, for the time being.

We will try and keep you updated as much as possible as and when we receive updated guidance from the Government.

God bless,

Luke Payton

Head of School
