On Wednesday afternoon, our Year 7 Football team took part in the first phase of the District Football Tournament at Woodfield.
Vs Walkwood 3-1
The first game saw us up against a strong Walkwood team. After a cagey start to the first half, Jude W produced probably the goal of the tournament, beating a couple of players before scoring a thunderous left footed shot into the top corner of the Walkwood goal. This goal seemed to settle our team and we started to take control of the match, creating lots of chances to increase our lead. It took us a few minutes into the second half to get our second goal (and Jude’s second), with Harry W getting our third. Walkwood did score one of their own but the game was out of their reach.
Vs Church Hill 8-0
Our team were very confident going into our second game, starting off on the front foot and applying lots of pressure to the opposition.
Romeo and Harry worked very well, creating lots of chances for each other, whilst Eathen didn’t stop running, which caused Church Hill lots of problems.
When called upon, Ben, Elijah, Alex C and Alex F kept out any attack Church Hill produced, leaving our forward-thinking players to cause Church Hill further problems.
A hat-trick for Jude, continued his excellent goal scoring record this season, which was also matched by Romeo, scoring his first hattrick of the year. Harry Wilson and Eathen also got on to the scoreboard to cap off a fine team display. Andrew and Kade showed intelligence and good footwork when called upon, by making the pitch wide and supplying good forward passes to help create more chances.
Vs Woodrush 3-1
Full of confidence our boys finished off the tournament with another strong team performance. We used the ball extremely well, creating 2v1 situations and 1-touch passes to open up a solid Woodrush team. Probably the most impressive team performance of our tournament.
We took a 3-0 advantage into the break, with goals from Harry, Eathen and another for Jude, after a lovely sequence of 1-touch passes around Woodrush’s back line.
Raihan was strong at the back in the second half, breaking up opportunities Woodrush created, Kade gained more confidence as the game progressed as did Andrew, and we showed a good resilience after conceding a goal.
A very good run out for the Year 7 team, progressing to the second stage of the tournament after half term.
Well done to all involved!!
