Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope you are all well. It’s so strange to think that it was two months ago since we were at school properly. As I have said before, we all really miss the children and we do look forward to the time when normality will resume.

Mr Roberts, Mrs Gallinagh, Mr Russell, Miss Waters and I have been working on the plans for Year 6 to return, following the Government’s announcement of welcoming them back in from 1st June. Directors of the Multi Academy now have the plans and will be scrutinising them. Once the final plans have been approved, I will be contacting Year 6 parents individually. I know lots of people are anxious about the potential return to school and out of Year 6 parents surveyed, only 55% said they would send their child back to school if we were to open on 1st June. Please be rest assured that if you do choose not to send your child back, you will not be penalised in anyway.

I know that there was a lot of discussion about Year 8 and how in the 3 tier system, this was the transition year. However, the Government has made it very clear that for parity across the nation, they want Year 6 pupils to return. Mrs Wintle and Mrs James have been working really hard behind the scenes on Year 8 transition and have held many meetings with high schools so they are fully informed about our Year 8 pupils. If possible, we will try our very best to welcome Year 8 back into school at some point, even if it is just for them to say their goodbyes and we will arrange an event to say goodbye properly when we are allowed!

Mrs Melsom and Miss Stewart have been working hard on Year 4 transition too as we know we will have some younger pupils that are anxious about their start to St Bede’s. I will be discussing plans for our September start with our Governors and Directors after 1/2 term so when I have more information, I will be sure to let you know.

We have some essential IT works taking place over the bank holiday so access to emails will be restricted. After 1/2 term, there will be some changes to email addresses and the website for remote learning. We will send out text messages and emails nearer the time to inform you of this. For more information on these works, see this link Pupils will not be expected to do any work over the 1/2 term holiday and as such, staff will not be expected to respond to pupils until Monday 1st June.

Once again, I cannot thank you all enough for the support you have all shown the school during these tough times. We are so grateful to have such a supportive St Bede’s family and we cannot wait to see you soon.

Take care, stay safe and God bless.
