May Prayer Themes
During the Month of May, we focus our attention on Our Blessed Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus. Let us use this month to bring her flowers, make our prayer spaces at home and in school look extra lovely and pray her special prayer, the Hail Mary and especially the Holy Rosary which is Her rose garden.
You can pray some of the many prayers dedicated to Our Lady during this month. As we are still in the joyful Season of Easter, we can pray the Regina Caeli (Queen of Heaven) as this is a prayer which replaces the Angelus and is said at 9am, 12noon and 6pm every day. We can pray a Hail Mary in the morning and the Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina) in the evening. Other special prayers of Mary can be prayed such as the Magnificat which is Mary’s song of praise found in St Luke’s Gospel, Chapter 1:46-50, 53-54 or the Memorare of St Bernard of Clairvaux. This used to be a favourite prayer said in Catholic Primary Schools as it was a special prayer to Our Ladyto help with day to day needs and ask Her prayers and protection.
Whatever we do during this lovely month, let us remember that Mary is our Spiritual Mother and She has been given to us by Jesus. As She was His Mother, She is ours too. Jesus gave Her to us when He was suffering and dying on the Cross and commended Her to the care of the Beloved Disciple, Saint John, who represents each one of us. Let us go with confidence to Mary for She will always lead us to Her Divine Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Our Blessed Lady, Mary, Mother of all people, Pray for us. Amen
