In June 2013 St Bede’s had our Section 48 RE Inspection. This is a formal external Inspection, and is carried out by a Diocesan team over 2 days . Inspectors look at the quality of the formal RE curriculum, including how good teaching is, the quality of Collective Worship, including Masses and class prayers, and the overall ethos and atmosphere in the school. They observe lessons, look at pupil books and have many discussions with the children, their teachers and other adults. At the end of the Inspection there is a report which gives a judgement in key areas, including an overall judgement.
I am delighted to report that St Bede’s was judged to be good and rapidly improving in all areas, including an overall judgement of Good, an improvement from our last RE Inspection, which had been satisfactory. We received extremely positive feedback about the developments in RE, and our future direction. All the teaching observed was judged to be Good or Outstanding, and the Inspection team were extremely positive about the behaviour and attitude of the children. I would like to pass my sincere thanks to Mrs Dhanjal, Head of RE, Mrs Connolly, Head of Faculty, Sam Downes, our Lay Chaplain, Fr Eddie, our school Chaplain and all the staff team for their contribution to the overall outcome. Coming so soon after our Ofsted Inspection, which had also lifted us from Satisfactory to Good, this is another significant vote of confidence in the school.
