Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ

“Then he, (Jesus), took them out as far as the outskirts of Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. Now as he blessed them, he withdrew from them and was carried up to heaven.”

Luke 24:50,51

We celebrated the joyous solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ into Heaven this week on the afternoon of Thursday 26th May. We enjoyed a special whole School Mass in the Sports Hall and we also remembered out Holy Patron, Saint Bede the Venerable.  Now we look forward with eagerness and expectation as the Promised Holy Spirit will be sent to us anew at Pentecost.

As Jesus physically leaves the earth He loves, He promises to send His Holy Spirit who will be with them and us for ever.  As He ascends, we see the full Glory of our Divine Lord and where Jesus is we too who believe in Him shall follow also.  We are to look towards our future home, which is Heaven and where one day, we will take our place – the place that Jesus has prepared for us.   We look forward over these next few days to the Coming of the Holy Spirit which we celebrate on Sunday 5th June in the great Feast of Pentecost.

Our prayer this week:

Lord Jesus Christ,

Son of the Father,

send now your Holy Spirit over the earth.

Let the Holy Spirit live in the hearts of people in every nation.

May they be preserved from war, disaster and catastrophe.

May the Lady of all Nations,

the Blessed Virgin Mary,

be our help and guide.
