More exciting news for St Bede’s….
We found out on Friday last week that St Bede’s has been awarded the prestigious title of a Renaissance Partner School. We applied for this prestigious national award and, due to the huge successes we’ve had with our Accelerated Reading program, we can now add this accolade to the many we hold as a school.
Following the introduction of our reading time in the afternoon, the increased focus on pupils’ reading and quizzing through the accelerated reading program, St Bede’s is now recognised as one of the top performing schools in the country when looking at pupils reading. During lockdown, many of our pupils accessed the MyON reading system. In fact, St Bede’s was the Top Performing School in the West Midlands, and in the top 20 in England.
When looking at successful STAR reading tests (the tests pupils take to analyse their reading ages), St Bede’s was ranked 6th in the entire country. This is down to the fantastic effort of our pupils and staff and, although we have removed compulsory homework, reading is still a compulsory homework each evening for all pupils, which they have continued to complete with the results and successes of this clearly evident. St Bede’s reading SATs results have improved hugely since the introduction of reading time and emphasis on accelerated reading, with results improving 18% in three years, and are now significantly above national average.
St Bede’s will now work with the team at Renaissance to help them with their research and development of future projects, being a beacon school that others can come and visit to see the successes of reading and hosting future events and training. We look forward to working with the Renaissance team.
