Tuesday 14th December is our next SMSVC day of the year, where we include elements of the PSHE curriculum. Children will need to be in normal school uniform.

Below is a brief outline of the topics that will be covered during the day by each year group. The theme for this day is bullying, which may include a range of concepts – including physical, cyber bullying, social media and prejudice. You may wish to have discussions in advance with your children so that they and yourselves have an awareness about what they will be learning. For more detailed information please look at our website curriculum maps for a more thorough outline of what each lesson will entail.

Year 5:

  • Bullying and the types of bullying – including what they should do if they or someone else is bullied.
  • Social media – including how bullying can take place online and how to use social media safely.
  • Cyber safety – staying safe online.
  • Self-esteem – how to build a positive self-esteem
  • Friendships – children will discuss what makes a positive friendship and how to maintain these.

Year 6:

  • Racial equality – Understand how to treat others equally and discuss issues occurring around the world.
  • Bullying – Understanding the different forms of bullying an how to deal with this
  • Cyber Safety – How to stay safe online
  • Social Media – Age restrictions of Social media and how to use this safely.
  • Under pressure – Pressure comes in different forms, and what those different forms are; we will look at strategies that pupils can adopt to resist pressure.

Year 7:

  • Bullying – Understanding the different forms of bullying an how to deal with this
  • Cyber safety – how to use the internet safely.
  • Social Media – including how bullying can take place online and how to use social media safely.
  • Civil injunctions – discussing what they are and how they can impact the victim.
  • Banter or bullying – discussing the difference between banter and bullying

      Year 8:

      • Bullying – Forms of bullying and what they can do if themselves or someone else is being bullied.
      • Cyber Safety– How to stay safe online, examining what to keep private and how to change our settings.
      • Social Media – How to use various social media safely and appropriately.
      • Loan Sharks – Understanding what a loan shark is and how this is a form of bullying and can affect their families.
      • Hate crime – PC Neil Sharpe will be our visitor to discuss hate crime with the children, what involves and how to support individuals.

      Although some of the sessions for different year groups will be on similar subjects (particularly bullying, cyber safety and social media – the sessions are differentiated to suit the age group).
