Hello everyone, good morning and I hope you are well today.

Welcome to Wednesday’s Spiritual Lift for your prayer and reflection.

Today we remember another Welsh Saint – Saint Asaph, also known as Asa.  A very happy feast day today for all who are Welsh or who have Welsh Ancestry.

Here is some information about Saint Asaph from www.catholic.org.

On the Catholic Online webpage, it says that Saint Asaph’s Feast Day was on 1st May – it is everywhere in the Christian world except Wales – when it is a special Feast Day especially in Wales today on 5th May.

Prayer focus: Month of May:

During the Month of May we remember and honour our Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus.  We especially honour her by saying the Rosary, which is her special prayer and is the prayer most dear to her heart.

Rosary Mystery for today: Month of May:

Our Rosary Mysteries today are the Glorious Mysteries.

Today we ask the Lord to shine the light of His love and glory into our lives.  May His wonderful light illuminate all our joys, sorrows and triumphs and help us to focus on the things that are above, in heaven.  Let us offer to Our Lady all that reveals God’s light in our lives in these Mysteries today.

Month of May:

Our special prayer this week to Our Lady: ‘The Salve Regina’ or ‘Hail Holy Queen.’

This is a timely prayer that Catholics throughout the centuries have prayed to Our Lady.  It is usually prayed immediately after the Rosary, and it is one of the Anthems to Our Lady that is prayed or sung after the last prayer Office of the Day, ‘Compline’ or ‘Night Prayer.’ This is the ‘Prayer of the Church’ prayed by Monks, Nuns, Priests and Lay people.

Hail, Holy Queen,

Mother of Mercy.

Hail our life,

our sweetness and our hope!

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;

to thee do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

thine eyes of mercy towards us,

And after this, our exile,

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.  Amen.

Prayer for the Month of May and Eastertide:

In honour of our Blessed Lady, the usual prayer every day of the ‘Angelus’ is replaced with the Regina Coeli’ or Queen of Heaven.

Prayer source taken from: https://www.ourcatholicprayers.com/regina-coeli.html

Queen of Heaven, rejoice. Alleluia.
For He, whom thou wast worthy to bear. Alleluia.
Has risen as He said. Alleluia.
Pray for us to God. Alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary. Alleluia.
R. Because the Lord is truly risen, Alleluia.

Let us pray;
O God, Who by the Resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, hast been pleased to give joy to the whole world, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may attain the joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Season of Easter:

We are now in the fifth week of the joyful Easter Season.

We are an Easter People and ‘Alleluia’ is our song! During these weeks of Easter (7 weeks in total) we celebrate the victorious and glorious rising of the Lord Jesus from death in His triumphant Resurrection that took place on Easter Sunday and we join in with the cries of hope and joy as we hear, ‘He is not here! He is Risen!’

Weekly Scripture Verse: For the 5th Week of Easter:

Our scripture verse for us to ponder and pray for this week comes from Saint John’s Gospel. (John 15:5) These verses are taken from the CTS New Catholic Bible Edition. Let us give thanks to the Lord for the precious gift of His Word, the Bible.  May it guide and strengthen us in these days. Be encouraged!

Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches.  Whoever remains in me, with me in him (them) bears fruit in plenty; for cut off from me you can do nothing.”

Weekly Rosary Prayer time from 8-8.30pm. Creating a heavenly rose-garden of prayers in honour of Our Blessed Lady.

Once again, tonight, I will be leading a weekly Rosary in honour of Our Lady to bring prayers for all our intentions in these uncertain and trying times from 8-8.30pm.  You are welcome to join me at this time, if you are able, in your home.

Each week, we shall be praying a different Mystery of the Rosary in rotation.  Once again, every time we say a Hail Mary well, we offer Our Blessed Mother in Heaven a beautiful rose.  She then gathers up all our prayers and presents them to her Divine Son, Jesus for Him to answer as He wills.

This week, especially as we are in the Season of Easter, we will be journeying again within the Luminous Mysteries or ‘Mysteries of Light’ of the Holy Rosary and we will, with every Hail Mary being prayed offer Our Blessed Lady some special bright pink roses which are a symbol of the Light of God as revealed through the Life and public ministry of the Light of the World, Our Lord Jesus, God’s Son.

During the Easter Season it is also traditional to pray the Glorious Mysteries every day from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday.

You can offer your own special prayers during this time, or a single Hail Mary, a full decade or pray all five decades for the Mystery.

Our Lady, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.  Amen.

Daily Scripture:

Our daily scripture reading today comes from the Book of Psalms. (Psalm 113b:15,16) Verse quotation is from the CTS New Catholic Bible Version.

“May you be blessed by the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.  The heavens belong to the Lord but the earth he has given to all people.”
