Hello everyone, good morning.

Welcome to our spiritual lift for today!  As always, there is so much happening in it today for your encouragement.

Today we begin our 9 days of prayer, (A Novena – from Latin ‘novem’ meaning ‘nine’) to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Here is the traditional Litany prayer from Our Catholic Prayers.  This will run each day from today, 10th June until 19th June which is when the Feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated.

Here is a beautiful set of nine days of prayer to Our Lord Jesus in honour of His Sacred, loving Heart from Sacred Space, Ireland.  This is a fantastic website organised by the Irish Jesuits online which helps us to pray daily and connect with God where we are.  I will continue to post this for the next few days for you. I heartily commend this website to you for your inspiration and prayer during these days.

June is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This Divine Heart, full of love and mercy, is the ultimate expression of God’s love for all people.  Jesus’ Heart is represented with His Heart pierced, as it was when He died on the cross, the soldier used his spear to check that Jesus had died. It is surrounded by a Crown of Thorns which reminds us of Jesus’ suffering and death and our wrongdoing which wounds the Heart of God when we choose to go our own ways rather than God’s.  It has burning flames coming from it which reminds us that God’s Heart burns with deepest, tenderest love for every person and it also the fire of His Holy Spirit.  At the top of the Heart, there is a Cross, which reminds us that the cross is at the heart of Jesus and this was the means by which we might be saved and God’s love expressed most fully.

Today’s Special characteristic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus:

Heart of Jesus, worthy of all praise, have mercy on us.  Amen.

Month of June – Sacred Heart of Jesus

Every week I will include a special prayer to Our Lord Jesus whose Sacred Heart beats with love for each one of us.

Our prayer to Jesus this week: A traditional prayer of Consecration.

O Merciful Jesus,

I consecrate myself today and always to Your Most Sacred Heart.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I ask that I may ever love You more and more.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Your own.  Amen.

Our Lady of Lourdes, Patron of our MAC, pray for us.

For those of you returning to school today with Reception, Year 1 and 6, I will be offering a special candle for you in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes.  May she keep you all safe and well under her protective mantle.  I hope your day and week goes well.  Here is a little traditional prayer to her as we begin today.

Blessed be the Holy and Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

Health of the Sick, pray for us.

Comfort of sufferers, pray for us.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.  Amen.

 Month of June – Dedicated to God the Holy Spirit.

He is the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity.  He is the love of the Father and the Son and fills the earth with His life and power. Every day we will be doing some heavenly gardening as we discover the many characteristics, gifts, fruits, attributes and symbols of the Holy Spirit.

Here is today’s:

Source of Living Water, come into our hearts!  Amen.

Our scripture reading today comes from: The First Letter of St John (1 John 4:10,11)NRSV

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.  Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.”

 Rosary prayer-time, a spiritual bouquet of heavenly roses:

Once again this evening, myself and St Peter’s Parish Rosary Group continue to pray the Rosary in our homes as we meet  from 7.30-8pm.  As before, I extend the invitation for you to join us in spirit if you would like to.  You are most welcome.  You can pray the whole set of Mysteries, just one Hail Mary or offer your own prayers and thoughts during this time.

Last Wednesday evening we prayed together the Mysteries of Light.  This week we will be praying the Sorrowful Mysteries.  Let us remember that however we choose to pray, whether it is the full Rosary of 4 Mysteries, just one set of one of the Mysteries or simply a Hail Mary, our own prayers or thoughts, our loving God hears us and He works all things to our good.  May we continue to place ourselves in His hands during these days and ask for His help and strength.

 Our prayers today:  A lovely traditional prayer to The Sacred Heart as we begin our 9 days of prayer to God.

 O Sacred Heart of Jesus,

filled with Infinite Love;

broken by our ingratitude and pierced by our sins; yet loving us still;

accept the consecration we make to You

of all that we are and all that we have.

Take every faculty of our souls and bodies,

only day by day draw us nearer and nearer to Your Sacred Heart;

and there, as we shall hear the lesson,

teach us Your holy way.  Amen.

During this lovely month of June, I will include some prayers to the Holy Spirit too. I have decided to use to begin with a verse from the beautiful Pentecost Sequence prayer which is said or sung during the Mass for the Solemnity of Pentecost, when the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out upon all believers and the Church was born.  There are 10 lovely verses which we can make our own special prayer to God the Holy Spirit.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew;

on our dryness, pour Your dew;

wash the stains of guilt away.  AmenTaken from the Sequence of Pentecost.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in You.  Amen.

 Come, Holy Spirit! Amen.

Our Lady of Lourdes, Patron of our Archdiocese and our MAC, Health of the Sick and Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us. Amen.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.

St Thomas More, pray for us. Amen.

St Peter, pray for us. Amen.

St Bede the Venerable, pray for us, Amen.

St Augustine of Canterbury, pray for us.  Amen.

 St Luke, Beloved Physician (Doctor) and companion of St Paul the Apostle, Patron of Doctors and Healthcare professionals, pray for us. Amen.

 St Jude Thaddeus, Patron of impossible or difficult circumstances, pray for us.  Amen.

 St Raphael, Archangel, God’s healing Angel, pray for us.  Amen.

 Today, I will be keeping a candle burning for your intentions and will remember you all at Mass.

Blessings to you all on this day.

Miss Downes
