Good morning everyone.
Welcome to today’s Spiritual lift.
For those of you returning to school today with Reception, Year 1 and 6 I will be offering a special candle for you in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes. May she keep you all safe and well under her protective mantle. I hope your day goes well. Here is a little traditional prayer to her as we begin today.
Blessed be the Holy and Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.
Health of the Sick, pray for us.
Comfort of sufferers, pray for us.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee. Amen.
Sacred Heart Novena: Day 3:
Here is the beautiful set of nine days of prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for you again to help you pray Day 3 of the Novena. There is also the material for over the weekend to help you in continued prayer as you wish. Next Monday, we will pick back up on Day 6. The Novena (nine days of prayer) run from 10th-19th June. Here is the traditional Litany prayer from Our Catholic Prayers. This will run each day from today, 10th June until 19th June which is when the Feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated.
Today’s Special characteristic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
Heart of Jesus, treasure house of wisdom and knowledge, have mercy on us. Amen.
Month of June – Sacred Heart of Jesus
Every week I will include a special prayer to Our Lord Jesus whose Sacred Heart beats with love for each one of us.
Our prayer to Jesus this week: A traditional prayer of Consecration.
O Merciful Jesus,
I consecrate myself today and always to Your Most Sacred Heart.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I ask that I may ever love You more and more.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Your own. Amen.
June is also dedicated to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is our source of life, grace, mercy and power from the Heart of God Himself. His power helps us to live as God wants. He helps us to pray, to love God and others, especially those whom we find difficult to get on with and those who have hurt us in some way. He is our Helper, Sustainer and Friend. May we turn to Him and ask for His help in these days. Every day we will be doing some heavenly gardening as we discover the many characteristics, gifts, fruits, attributes and symbols of the Holy Spirit.
Here is today’s:
Spirit of God, You who fill the Universe, descend upon us. Amen
Our scripture reading today comes from: The 1st Book of the Kings found in the Old Testament.
(1 Kings 19:11-13)NIV
This passage is one which many people find inspirational and comforting. The Lord promises to remain always with us, and He does. We can hear Him especially well when we are still and can really listen for His still, small voice, as loud as a gentle whisper. Can we hear Him today? See if you can find some quiet time alone with God today, or perhaps over the weekend and really listen. We too, can have the same experience as the Prophet Elijah in our verses today!
“The Lord said (to Elijah), ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake, came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.”
Our prayers for today:
During this lovely month of June, I will include some prayers to the Holy Spirit too. I have decided to use to begin with a verse from the beautiful Pentecost Sequence prayer which is said or sung during the Mass for the Solemnity of Pentecost, when the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out upon all believers and the Church was born. There are 10 lovely verses which we can make our own special prayer to God the Holy Spirit.
On the faithful who adore,
and confess You, evermore.
In Your seven-fold Gift descend. Amen. Taken from the Sequence of Pentecost.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in You. Amen.
Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of all Your people! Amen.
Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church, pray for us. Amen.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Patron of our Archdiocese and our MAC, Health of the Sick and Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us. Amen.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.
St Thomas More, pray for us. Amen.
St Peter, pray for us. Amen.
St Bede the Venerable, pray for us, Amen.
St Augustine of Canterbury, pray for us. Amen.
St Luke, Beloved Physician (Doctor) and companion of St Paul the Apostle, Patron of Doctors and Healthcare professionals, pray for us. Amen.
St Jude Thaddeus, Patron of impossible or difficult circumstances, pray for us. Amen.
St Raphael, Archangel, God’s healing Angel, pray for us. Amen.
Today, I will be keeping a candle burning for your intentions and will remember you all at Mass.
Blessings to you all on this day.
