Hello everyone, good morning to you!
Welcome to today’s spiritual lift! As usual, there is so much going on in it. May you be blessed and encouraged.
Once again I will be offering a special candle for you in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes. May she keep you all safe and well under her protective mantle. I hope your day and week goes well.
Easing of the lockdown – Places of Worship:
Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be open for individual private prayers starting today. Church will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.30am-12.30am for private prayer ONLY. As yet we do not have a date when public services or Mass is able to be celebrated. We look forward to the day when this is possible once again.
Special prayers for our young people:
During this time of pandemic and lockdown, with all Churches and places of worship closed, we have unfortunately been unable to meet together to celebrate the Sacraments. Our Year 3 children were due to have made their First Holy Communion at the start of June and our young people in Years 7 and 8 were due to receive the Holy Spirit in a new way and be Confirmed this evening in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and tomorrow evening in St Peter’s Bromsgrove. Let us continue to keep them all in our thoughts and prayers as we look forward to the time in hope when we will be able to celebrate these important Sacraments in their lives and in the life of our faith communities.
Sacred Heart Novena: Day 6:
Here is the beautiful set of nine days of prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for you again to help you pray Day 6 of the Novena. There is also the material for over the weekend to help you in continued prayer as you wish. The Novena (nine days of prayer) run from 10th-19th June. I will continue to post this for the next few days for you. I heartily commend the www.sacredspace.ie to you for your inspiration and prayer during these days.
Here is the traditional Litany prayer from Our Catholic Prayers. This will run each day from today, 10th June until 19th June which is when the Feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated.
June is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
This Divine Heart, full of love and mercy, is the ultimate expression of God’s love for all people. Jesus’ Heart is represented with His Heart pierced, as it was when He died on the cross, the soldier used his spear to check that Jesus had died. It is surrounded by a Crown of Thorns which reminds us of Jesus’ suffering and death and our wrongdoing which wounds the Heart of God when we choose to go our own ways rather than God’s. It has burning flames coming from it which reminds us that God’s Heart burns with deepest, tenderest love for every person and it also the fire of His Holy Spirit. At the top of the Heart, there is a Cross, which reminds us that the cross is at the heart of Jesus and this was the means by which we might be saved and God’s love expressed most fully.
Today’s Special characteristic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
Heart of Jesus, in Whom there dwells the fulness of God, have mercy on us. Amen.
Month of June – Sacred Heart of Jesus
Every week I will include a special prayer to Our Lord Jesus whose Sacred Heart beats with love for each one of us.
Our prayer to Jesus this week: A traditional prayer to the Sacred Heart.
Heart of Jesus, save me.
Heart of my Creator, perfect me.
Heart of my Saviour, deliver me.
Heart of my Judge, forgive me.
Heart of my Father, govern me.
Heart of my Spouse of my soul, love me.
Heart of my Master, teach me.
Heart of my King, crown me.
Heart of my Benefactor, enrich me.
Heart of my Pastor, defend me.
Heart of my Friend, embrace me.
Heart of my Infant Jesus, draw me.
Heart of Jesus, dying on the Cross, pray for me.
Heart of Jesus, great in all Your states, please give Yourself to me.
Allow me, my Lord, to give all that I am to You.
O, Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You! Amen.
June is also dedicated to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is our source of life, grace, mercy and power from the Heart of God Himself. His power helps us to live as God wants. He helps us to pray, to love God and others, especially those whom we find difficult to get on with and those who have hurt us in some way. He is our Helper, Sustainer and Friend. May we turn to Him and ask for His help in these days. Every day we will be doing some heavenly gardening as we discover the many characteristics, gifts, fruits, attributes and symbols of the Holy Spirit.
Here is today’s:
Holy Spirit, consuming fire, come into our hearts! Amen.
Our scripture reading today comes from: St John’s Gospel. (John 6:51-52) JB Through Jesus’ Death and Resurrection, we can have life in all its fulness. Jesus promises to feed us with Himself. If we come to Him, He will meet all our needs.
Jesus said, “I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give, is My Flesh, for the life of the World.”
Our prayers for today:
Yesterday was the beautiful Feast of the Lord’s Body and Blood, Corpus Christi. As we are currently unable to meet in Church for public services and Mass and receive Jesus in the Eucharist, let us pray that very soon we will be able to meet together again in hope and love with lives renewed and refreshed and come to celebrate His deep love for us in the Sacrament of His Love. Prayer for Corpus Christi:
O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament
have left us a memorial of Your Passion,
grant us, we pray,
so to revere the Sacred Mysteries of Your Body and Blood
that we may always experience in ourselves
the fruits of Your Redemption.
Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
During this lovely month of June, I will include some prayers to the Holy Spirit too. I have decided to use to begin with a verse from the beautiful Pentecost Sequence prayer which is said or sung during the Mass for the Solemnity of Pentecost, when the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out upon all believers and the Church was born.
Here is the final verse today. From tomorrow, I will include some prayers and verses from the beautiful Litany of the Holy Spirit with which we can make our own special prayer to God the Holy Spirit.
Give us virtue’s sure reward.
Give us Your salvation, Lord.
Give us joys that never end. Amen. Alleluia! Taken from the Sequence of Pentecost.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in You. Amen.
Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of all Your people! Amen.
Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church, pray for us. Amen.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Patron of our Archdiocese and our MAC, Health of the Sick and Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us. Amen.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.
St Thomas More, pray for us. Amen.
St Peter, pray for us. Amen.
St Bede the Venerable, pray for us, Amen.
St Augustine of Canterbury, pray for us. Amen.
St Luke, Beloved Physician (Doctor) and companion of St Paul the Apostle, Patron of Doctors and Healthcare professionals, pray for us. Amen.
St Jude Thaddeus, Patron of impossible or difficult circumstances, pray for us. Amen.
St Raphael, Archangel, God’s healing Angel, pray for us. Amen.
Today, I will be keeping a candle burning for your intentions and will remember you all at Mass.
Blessings to you all on this day.
