Hello everyone, good  morning to you all!

Welcome to Monday’s Spiritual Lift for today.

As we begin a new week, let us ask the Lord in His love to bless, guide and keep us in His tender care.

Today we remember the Feast Day of St Maria Goretti.

Maria was born on 16th October 1890 and died on 6th July 1902.  She was Italian and is one of the Patron Saints of young people because she was only 12 years old when she died professing her faith in Jesus.  Let us ask for her prayers before God for all our young people and youth during these times of anxiety and uncertainty.

The Month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of Jesus and the Love of God for us and towards us.

Traditionally, in the Church during the Month of July, we remember and honour the Precious Blood of Jesus and we give thanks for the eternal and unconditional love that our God has for each one of us.

We can honour Jesus’ love and think about how He suffered for us in the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.   With each of these particular Mysteries of the Rosary, we remember Jesus’ Agony in the Garden; His scourging at the pillar; His crowning with thorns; His carrying of the Cross and His Crucifixion and Death.

We can show our love for God by thanking Him for His great love and by showing love, kindness and respect to others as we are all brothers and sisters together.

Month of July – Precious Blood and the Love of God for us:

“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him may not perish but may have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

We can see God’s love in the beauty of creation, our loved ones, family and friends, the good things we enjoy in our lives, our blessings and all we have.  In the Sacraments of the Church and especially in the Eucharist, at Mass, we remember the Lord’s love in dying for us on the Cross and the offering of His life for our salvation.  Inspired by the love of God, we too should love one another.  How might we show our love for God and for others today?

The Gift of Love:

Over the next few days as we continue our journey into July, I will be including a verse from the wonderful chapter all about Love, in St Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, Chapter 13: 4-8a.

”And now faith, hope and love remain, these three; and the greatest of these is love.” (1 Cor 13:13.) NRSV

Here is today’s.   From 1 Corinthians 13:4:

Love is not boastful.

Month of July – God’s wonderful Love:

Every week I will include a special scripture reading all about God’s Love.  Here is this week’s scripture for reading and meditating upon. This week’s Scripture comes from:  St John’s Gospel, Chapter 13 verse 34. NRSV

Jesus said, “I give you an new commandment, that you love one another.  Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.  By this will everyone know that you are My Disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Our prayers for today:

Over the next few days, I’m going to be using the beautiful and inspiring words from the wonderful prayer book and hymnal from the Bible – The Book of the Psalms.  Jesus Himself would have prayed these throughout His life as He made them a part of His own prayers and hymns to God.  Let’s do the same!

“Bless the Lord, O my soul.

O Lord, my God, You are very great.

You are clothed with honour and majesty

Wrapped in light as in a garment.

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;

I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

May my meditation be pleasing to Him,

For I rejoice in the Lord.  Amen.    Taken from Psalm 104:1,2,33-34 NRSV

Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church, pray for us.  Amen.

Our daily scripture reading today comes from: The Book of Psalms: (Psalm 145: 1-4) NRSV

“I will extol you, my God and King and bless Your Name for ever and ever.

Every day I will bless You, and praise your Name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; His greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall laud Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”

Today, I will be keeping a candle burning for your intentions and will remember you all at Mass.

Blessings to you all on this day.

Miss Downes
