Hello everyone, good morning to you.
Welcome to our spiritual lift for today!
Today we remember Saints Marcellinus and Peter.
They were two 4th Century Christian martyrs from the city of Rome who died under the persecution of the Emperor Diocletian. Here is some more information for you and a video about them. Please click on the link.
June is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
This Divine Heart, full of love and mercy, is the ultimate expression of God’s love for all people. Jesus’ Heart is represented with His Heart pierced, as it was when He died on the cross, the soldier used his spear to check that Jesus had died. It is surrounded by a Crown of Thorns which reminds us of Jesus’ suffering and death and our wrongdoing which wounds the Heart of God when we choose to go our own ways rather than God’s. It has burning flames coming from it which reminds us that God’s Heart burns with deepest, tenderest love for every person and it also the fire of His Holy Spirit. At the top of the Heart, there is a Cross, which reminds us that the cross is at the heart of Jesus and this was the means by which we might be saved and God’s love expressed most fully.
Today’s Special characteristic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
Heart of Jesus, infinite in majesty, have mercy on us. Amen.
Month of June – Sacred Heart of Jesus
Every week I will include a special prayer to Our Lord Jesus whose Sacred Heart beats with love for each one of us.
Our prayer to Jesus this week:
You will not fail me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your Love for me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, may Your Kingdom come.
Month of June – Dedicated to God the Holy Spirit.
He is the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity. He is the love of the Father and the Son and fills the earth with His life and power. Every day we will be doing some heavenly gardening as we discover the many characteristics, gifts, fruits, attributes and symbols of the Holy Spirit.
Here is today’s:
Spirit of Long-Suffering and Patience.
Our scripture reading today comes from: 2 Peter 3:13,14NRSV
Here are some encouraging words from the Second Letter of St Peter.
“But in accordance with His (Jesus’) promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home. Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by Him in peace, without spot or blemish and regard the patience of Our Lord as salvation.”
Our prayers today:
During this lovely month of June, I will include some prayers to the Holy Spirit too. I have decided to use to begin with a verse from the beautiful Pentecost Sequence prayer which is said or sung during the Mass for the Solemnity of Pentecost, when the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out upon all believers and the Church was born. There are 10 lovely verses which we can make our own special prayer to God the Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit, come
and from your celestial home
shed a ray of light divine. Amen. Taken from the Sequence of Pentecost.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in You. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit! Amen.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Patron of our Archdiocese and our MAC, Health of the Sick and Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us. Amen.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.
St Thomas More, pray for us. Amen.
St Peter, pray for us. Amen.
