We continue to honour Our Lord’s Sacred Heart as we journey through the Month of June.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This Divine Heart, full of love and mercy, is the ultimate expression of God’s love for all people.  Jesus’ Heart is represented with His Heart pierced, as it was when He died on the cross, the soldier used his spear to check that Jesus had died. It is surrounded by a Crown of Thorns which reminds us of Jesus’ suffering and death and our wrongdoing which wounds the Heart of God when we choose to go our own ways rather than God’s.  It has burning flames coming from it which reminds us that God’s Heart burns with deepest, tenderest love for every person and it also the fire of His Holy Spirit.  At the top of the Heart, there is a Cross, which reminds us that the cross is at the heart of Jesus and this was the means by which we might be saved and God’s love expressed most fully.

Let us continue to say this special prayer every day this week in honour of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You! Immaculate Heart of Mary, be our refuge and protection!

Month of June – Ordinary Time – The Angelus:

In honour of our Blessed Lady, we now continue to say the Angelus all through the year until next Easter.  This is a beautiful prayer which is traditionally said every day at 6am, 12noon and 6pm.

It helps us to remember that Jesus Our Lord was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb and this great news was given to Mary through the message of the Angel Gabriel to her.   Here is a link to this lovely prayer which honours the Son of God becoming human for us in His Incarnation from Our Catholic Prayers.

We are now in Ordinary Time- Summer:

The special colour is green, and this reminds us of the springing up of new life and growth which we can see in creation and nature all around and we have received in our hearts, minds and souls because of the joy and victory of Easter and the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit which we have received.

The Year of Saint Joseph continues!

Daily Scripture:

Our daily scripture reading today are the words of Jesus which come from Saint Matthew’s Gospel. (Matthew 7:13,14) These verses form part of the great Sermon on the Mount given by Jesus at the very start of His earthly ministry.  The Verse quotation is from the CTS New Catholic Bible version.

“Enter by the narrow gate, since the road that leads to perdition is wide and spacious, and many take it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Our prayers for today:

Here is a prayer written by St Thomas More taken from the Daily Prayers.org Website. You can find more here:

https://www.daily-prayers.org/angels-and-saints/prayers-of-saint-thomas-more/

Holy martyr for the Church, you used your talents
to bring God’s love and mercy to earth. Yet you
realized that human fame and glory were
momentary and fleeting.

In your practice of law, you understood and were
loyal first to God’s eternal law spoken through the
successors of the Apostles. While a servant of
the king, you were a servant to the Church first.

Help me to see that loyalty to God’s laws must be
the first part of my ties and responsibilities with
others. Strengthen me to seek out what the
Church teaches. Give me the wisdom to make the
right choice, and the fortitude to carry it out. This
I ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Today, I will be keeping a special prayer candle burning for you and will remember you and your prayer intentions before the Lord.

Let us ask…..

Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us.  Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.  Amen.
