Hello everyone, good morning. I hope you are well and may the Lord continue to bless and guide you during this week. May today be filled with exciting possibilities for you.

Welcome to Tuesday’s Spiritual Lift. May you be blessed and encouraged as you read and reflect today.

Our Scripture reading for this week reflects the Season of Advent we have just begun.  Our reading this week comes from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah. (Is.11:1,2) It talks about the new shoot which will grow into a virtuous Branch for the Lord – Jesus Our Messiah.

“A shoot springs from the stock of Jesse, a scion comes from his roots: on him the Spirit of the Lord rests, a spirit of wisdom and insight, a spirit of counsel and power, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.”

Advent 2021:

We are now in Advent!  On Sunday, the joyful Season of Advent began. We are encouraged to prepare our hearts for the Birth of Our Lord Jesus at Christmas and we look forward with joy and hopeful expectation in the days ahead.  May we grow closer to the Lord in this lovely Season and remember God’s love for each one of us as He gave us His Son, Jesus to be our Saviour. The special colours of the Season are purple/violet and rose pink. Here is some information from the Liturgy Office.

Advent has a twofold character: for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered; and likewise when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time.

Advent Jesse Tree:

This devotion is named after King David’s father, Jesse. Out of the family line of King David will come the Messiah, God’s promised King and his Chosen One who will be born to be our Saviour and Redeemer – Jesus. It is traditional during Advent to pray through an ancient devotion which traces the Genealogy and human Family Tree of Jesus Christ. This concludes on 17th-24th December where we then pray the traditional O Antiphons which are some of the ancient titles of Jesus.

Here is some information from Catholic Culture all about this beautiful Advent devotion.
