Hello everyone, good morning to you. I hope your week is going well for you so far. May it continue to be a week of enrichment and opportunity for you.
As we begin a new day and continue through our week, I have included our scripture verse here again for your inspiration. We thank God for the gift of His word to us.
“Send forth your Spirit, O LORD, and renew the face of the earth.” Psalm 103:30
Welcome to today’s Spiritual Lift on this Wednesday for your reading, reflection and prayer.
Today we remember Saint Philip Neri. Here is some information about him from Catholic Online. www.catholic.org
Saint Philip was the founder of the Oratorian Fathers in Rome. The nearest Oratory is in Birmingham on the Hagley Road, in Edgbaston and Saint John Henry Newman prayed there regularly. There at the Birmingham Oratory is a beautiful Shrine and Chapel dedicated to Saint Cardinal John Henry Newman which is open to all and where many people go and ask Saint John Henry Newman to pray for them. There are many Oratories in the UK.
Prayer focus: Month of May:
During the Month of May we remember and honour our Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus. We especially honour her by saying the Rosary, which is her special prayer and is the prayer most dear to her heart.
Our Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us. Amen.
Rosary Mystery for today: Month of May:
Our Rosary Mysteries today are the Glorious Mysteries.
Today we ask Our Blessed Mother Mary to help us be thankful for all that our Loving God sends us, His many blessings and His love. We remember those times where the radiance of the Lord shone through and revealed His majesty and Glory to us on earth. May we continue to live in the light and love of the Holy Spirit and ask the Lord to show us His glory too.
Month of May: Weekly Prayer:
Our special prayer this week to Our Lady: Our prayer this week is The Magnificat.
This is taken from Saint Luke’s Gospel – Luke 1:46-55. It is Mary’s great song of praise to the Lord. This is traditionally said at every Evening Prayer or ‘Vespers’ in the Divine Office or Liturgy of the Hours of the Church. This is prayed by monks, nuns, priests and lay people every day in honour of our Blessed Lady and gives praise and glory to our loving God.
My Soul glorifies the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
He looks on His servant in her lowliness;
henceforth all ages will call be blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy His Name!
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear Him.
He puts forth His arm in strength
and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things,
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, His servant,
Remembering His mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his servants for ever. Amen.
Month of May – The Angelus:
In honour of our Blessed Lady, we now continue to say the Angelus all through the year until next Easter. This is a beautiful prayer which is traditionally said every day at 6am, 12noon and 6pm. It helps us to remember that Jesus Our Lord was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb and this great news was given to Mary through the message of the Angel Gabriel to her. Here is a link to this lovely prayer which honours the Son of God becoming human for us in His Incarnation from Our Catholic Prayers.
We are now in Ordinary Time- Summer:
The special colour is green and this reminds us of the springing up of new life and growth which we can see in creation and nature all around and we have received in our hearts, minds and souls because of the joy and victory of Easter and the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit which we have received.
The Year of Saint Joseph continues!
Here is the information from the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales with more details about the Year of Saint Joseph.
Here are some special prayers we can say during the Year of Saint Joseph. These are from www.ourcatholicprayers.com

Weekly Rosary Prayer time from 8-8.30pm. Creating a heavenly rose-garden of prayers in honour of Our Blessed Lady.
Once again, tonight, I will be leading a weekly Rosary in honour of Our Lady to bring prayers for all our intentions in these uncertain and trying times from 8-8.30pm. You are welcome to join me at this time, if you are able, in your home.
Each week, we shall be praying a different Mystery of the Rosary in rotation. Once again, every time we say a Hail Mary well, we offer Our Blessed Mother in Heaven a beautiful rose. She then gathers up all our prayers and presents them to her Divine Son, Jesus for Him to answer as He wills.
This week, we will be journeying again within the Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary, and we will, with every Hail Mary being prayed, offer our Lady a lovely snow-white rose which remind us of the beauty, purity and holiness of Our Lord Jesus, Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart and St Joseph’s purity as Mary’s chaste Spouse and Husband.
Throughout the year, it is now traditional until the Advent Season to pray the Glorious Mysteries every Wednesday and Sunday.
You can offer your own special prayers during this time, or a single Hail Mary, a full decade or pray all five decades for the Mystery.
Our Lady, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us. Amen.
Our daily scripture reading today comes from Saint Matthew’s Gospel. (Matthew 11:25,26) Verse quotation is from the CTS New Catholic Bible Translation.
“At that time, Jesus exclaimed, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.’ “
