Hello everyone, good morning to you.

As we begin a new day and continue through our week, I have included our scripture verse here again for your inspiration. We thank God for the gift of His word to us.

“Send forth your Spirit, O LORD, and renew the face of the earth.” Psalm 103:30

Welcome to a very special Spiritual Lift today.    May you be strengthened in your faith journey with the Lord today as you read.

Today we honour the Patron Saint of our School – Saint Bede the Venerable. May today’s Spiritual Lift be of particular blessing and encouragement for you. May his prayers and example accompany all who belong to the Saint Bede’s Middle School family today: Pupils and their families, Staff, Directors, Governors and all associated with our learning community.

Saint Bede, our Holy Patron, pray for us.  Amen.

Here is some information about him from www.catholic.org.

Prayer focus: Month of May:

During the Month of May we remember and honour our Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus.  We especially honour her by saying the Rosary, which is her special prayer and is the prayer most dear to her heart.

Our Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.  Amen.

Rosary Mystery for today: Month of May:

Our Rosary Mysteries today are the Sorrowful Mysteries.

May we remember the sorrowful times that Mary and Jesus went through, especially when Jesus gave His life and died on Calvary and Mother Mary remained strong at the foot of the Cross.  We offer all that makes us sad and unhappy today and ask Our Lady to gather us in her arms and comfort us.

Month of May: Weekly Prayer:

Our special prayer this week to Our Lady: Our prayer this week is The Magnificat.

This is taken from Saint Luke’s Gospel – Luke 1:46-55.   It is Mary’s great song of praise to the Lord.  This is traditionally said at every Evening Prayer or ‘Vespers’ in the Divine Office or Liturgy of the Hours of the Church.  This is prayed by monks, nuns, priests and lay people every day in honour of our Blessed Lady and gives praise and glory to our loving God.

My Soul glorifies the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.

He looks on His servant in her lowliness;

henceforth all ages will call be blessed.

The Almighty works marvels for me.

Holy His Name!

His mercy is from age to age,

on those who fear Him.

He puts forth His arm in strength

and scatters the proud-hearted.

He casts the mighty from their thrones

and raises the lowly.

He fills the starving with good things,

sends the rich away empty.

He protects Israel, His servant,

Remembering His mercy,

the mercy promised to our fathers,

to Abraham and his servants for ever.  Amen.

Month of May – The Angelus:

In honour of our Blessed Lady, we now continue to say the Angelus all through the year until next Easter.  This is a beautiful prayer which is traditionally said every day at 6am, 12noon and 6pm.  It helps us to remember that Jesus Our Lord was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb and this great news was given to Mary through the message of the Angel Gabriel to her.   Here is a link to this lovely prayer which honours the Son of God becoming human for us in His Incarnation from Our Catholic Prayers.

We are now in Ordinary Time- Summer:

The special colour is green and this reminds us of the springing up of new life and growth which we can see in creation and nature all around and we have received in our hearts, minds and souls because of the joy and victory of Easter and the promised Gift of the Holy Spirit which we have received.
