Thought for the Week

Our Lady of Fatima Centenary
This weekend, the Church commemorates 100 years since the apparitions of Our Blessed Lady, Mary the Mother of Jesus at Fatima in Portugal.
On 12/13th October 1917, there was the final apparition for Jacinta and Francisco Marto and Lucia Santos, the three shepherd children who witnessed the visitation of Our Lady on earth where she revealed herself as Our Lady of the Rosary. In all there were 6 recorded apparitions which began on May 13th 1917 and concluded on October 13th 1917.
On the 13th, October, there was the ‘Miracle of the Sun’ where the sun was seen to ‘dance’ in the sky in front of many thousands of people who were witnessing the supernatural event.
Our Lady showed Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia many things and spoke many messages calling all people to repentance, revealing the Divine Grace and Mercy of God. Our Lady said;
“Pray the Rosary every day for peace in the world.”
As we continue through the month of October we remember this is the month of Our Lady and the Holy Rosary.
If we can, in the weeks remaining, perhaps we can try to pray a Hail Mary each day or a Decade of the Rosary. If we are feeling particularly inspired as no prayer is ever wasted but we know that the Lord hears all our petitions then we might like to pray five decades of the Rosary, One complete Mystery.
The days on which the Mysteries are traditionally prayed as follows;
- Monday & Saturday – Joyful
- Tuesday & Friday – Sorrowful
- Wednesday & Sunday – Glorious
- Thursday – Light
Our Blessed Lady is not only the Mother of Jesus but she is also our Mother in Heaven! When Jesus was dying on the Cross, He chose to give Mary to St John as his Mother and St John to her as her son. St John, the only faithful disciple who stood at the foot of the Cross, actually represents us. We receive the blessing of knowing that Our Lady is also our Mother if we choose to accept her and allow her to love and care for us. May Our Lady of the Rosary, Queen of Heaven and our dear Spiritual Mother pray for us in all our necessities!
Our prayer this week:
Our Lady of Fatima,
O Most Holy Virgin Mary, as we celebrate the Anniversary of your apparition to three young shepherd children
to reveal the treasures of grace held in the recitation of the Rosary,
it is a great reminder for us to pray the Rosary more fervently than ever
in these difficult times in our world.
Impress upon our souls a fervent love for this devotion.
By meditating on the mysteries of our redemption, may we learn how to use the teachings,
which lie therein and obtain the graces we ask in this prayer,
for the glory of God and the redemption of our souls.
Our Lady of Fatima, we pray for families, our nation and the whole world. Amen
