This Sunday, 9th February is Racial Justice Sunday.
This is usually held in the Church three Sundays before the beginning of Lent.
We are all brothers and sisters together and we all have a unique and precious dignity as children of God. As a Catholic School, we can lead the way in how we treat others and welcome all to come into our School community to learn, pray, discover and grow as individuals. We are a caring and inclusive community who views everyone as a unique and precious child of God with their one special identity. These prayers we offer, linked with the local Parishes and faith communities within the worldwide Universal Catholic Church, can bring about much good and positive change and seek to break down barriers which promote harmony, concord and the common good.
This weekend and into the coming week, may we call to mind those who have been special to us and for us who have shown us God’s lovely Face. Let us also remember all those faces we see day by day – those known to us and those we don’t. We all share the beautiful grace of being created in the Image and likeness of Our Good Creator God – imago Dei– the image of God Himself and that is what makes us so unique and precious, not only to Him but also to each other.
Over the course of this next week, let us ask the Holy Spirit to shine His light upon us and help us to see the Lord in all the faces of those we encounter. May we, as a school community, learn to recognise the Face of God in all those we meet day by day. The struggling pupil, the tired and stressed work colleague. The person who needs God’s love, God’s light and God’s care. The person who feels ‘on the margins’ and doesn’t feel included or welcomed. Let us remember the powerful words of Jesus about this:
…”for I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me……..”Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.” Matthew 25: 35, 40
Our prayer this week:
Father in heaven,
Help us by the power of your Holy Spirit
and teach us to recognise your face in all those whom
You put into our lives day by day.
We ask this in the Name of your Son,
Jesus Christ Our Lord.
